A 49-year-old East Bank Demerara businessman has been remanded to prison on a charge of trafficking in person.
The man Alvin Parag for whom two addresses were provided – Diamond on the East Bank of Demerara and Alberttown in the city is accused of trafficking a 31-year-old Cuban national.
Parag appeared before Magistrate Judy Latchman where the prosecutor’s objection to bail was upheld. He will return to court on October 6, when the matter will be called for statements and disclosure.
Parag, according to the police, is accused trafficking the woman between March and June of this year at Diamond.
The police force said it will continue to work with stakeholders to combat trafficking in persons in all forms.
