An Assistant Accounts Clerk of the Guyana Elections Commission is in police custody as investigators continue their probe into a $5 million simple larceny from the agency’s accounts department, Police confirmed Tuesday.
The Corporate Communications Unit of the Guyana Police Force said detectives recovered a small fraction of the stolen money, which was found in the possession of the clerk.
Crime Chief Wendell Blanhum on Monday said several GECOM employees are assisting investigators in connection with the larceny. The investigation is ongoing.
