A 37-year-old Cuban national was stabbed to death on Saturday during a fight with a co-worker at a shipyard on the East Bank of Demerara.
According to a statement from the Guyana Police Force’s Corporate Communications Unit, Luis Angel Rodriguez Guillen and a 32-year-old fellow Cuban national, both employees of the shipyard, got into an argument at their Land of Canaan worksite. The argument became physical.
Police say that during the fight, the 32-year-old armed himself with a knife and stabbed Rodriguez Guillen in the chest. Rodriguez Guillen collapsed in the hallway of the workers’ quarters.
The suspect was restrained and handed over to the police, who arrested him and placed him in custody.
The knife believed to have been used in the stabbing has been recovered and lodged as evidence.
A post-mortem examination is expected to be done to determine the cause of death, and police investigations are continuing.
