Businessman Ernesto Choo-a-Fat says he will take legal action against Opposition Leader Azruddin Mohamed over a Facebook post about a raid by the Customs Anti-Narcotics Unit on a property he owns.
In a statement, CANU said its officers conducted a contraband operation at a property in Windsor Estates on Saturday, during which a quantity of uncustomed alcohol was discovered. No narcotics were found.
Three persons were arrested and taken to CANU Headquarters for questioning. CANU said one of them stated that he rents the property from Choo-a-Fat.
However, the unit stressed that Choo-a-Fat was not the subject of the operation, nor of any of its investigations.
In a statement issued through his attorney, Sase Gunraj, Choo-a-Fat said a post about the raid was made on Mohamed’s Facebook page on Saturday. He said the property has been rented out for more than three years and is not in his possession or control.
His attorney said the statements in the post are false, malicious and defamatory, and seriously damage his client’s reputation. He said he has been instructed to immediately file legal proceedings against Mohamed.
In response, Mohamed, in a Facebook post, denied spreading misinformation and said he stands by everything he said.
“We shall happily see you in court,” the Opposition Leader stated.
