With less than three months to go before Guyana’s pivotal September 1 General and Regional Elections, major shifts are unfolding within the opposition.
Opposition Leader Aubrey Norton has confirmed that Alliance for Change Executives Sherod Duncan and Juretha Fernandes; Attorney Dexter Todd and Former Deputy Police Commissioner Paul Williams are among the new faces that will appear on the APNU’s list of candidates.
Norton during an interview said there are many new faces that the public will see over time. Further, it is believed that Fernandes is tipped to be the APNU’s Prime Ministerial Candidate.
Questioned on the new proposal of 35% – 65% split put forward by the Alliance for Change with 35% in favour of the AFC, Norton said it was unacceptable.
He said the partnership was prepared to go with the 70%-30% split but with election now here he does not believe in the back and forth at this time.
Earlier former Member of Parliament Geeta Chandan-Edmond, Region Four Chairman Daniel Seeram, and Vice Chairman Samuel Sandy have declared their support for the ruling People’s Progressive Party.
Today Amanza Walton Desir formally announced her Political Party to contest the election hours after resigning from the PNC/R with immediate effect.
