A pensioner succumbed to injuries she sustained during a three-vehicle accident on the Ogle Public Road in which a diplomatic vehicle assigned to the Russian Embassy was involved.
The victim who has been identified as Ava Braithwaite died on Saturday almost two weeks after the accident. Her cause of death according to a post mortem performed by government pathologist Dr. Nehaul Singh was multiple injuries due to a motor vehicle accident.
The Guyana Police Force in its first release on the accident which occurred on August 5th said the Diplomatic vehicle bearing registration number DPL 9-01 and driven by Nikolai Golovinov crashed into the back of Braithwaite’s car bearing registration number PJJ 5340 before crashing into a minibus with license place number JAF 9628. Golovinov was said to be speeding according to the police statement.
The impact of the collision saw a light pole being uprooted from the median.The statement said the elderly woman was conscious following the collision.

The driver of the diplomatic vehicle Nikolai Golovinov was taken to the Sparendaam Police Station where a breathalyser test was conducted, and no alcohol was detected in the system. He was processed and later released. The diplomatic vehicle was also removed from the scene and taken to the Sparendaam Police Station, the report said.
Ms. Braithwaite’s family was notified that she was involved in an accident by a colleague who recognised her work shirt as emergency medical technicians were placing her into the ambulance. The family said when they attempted to get information from ranks at the Sparendaam Police Station they were not cooperative, leading them to believe that the police were attempting to cover up the accident. Ava Braithwaite was employed with Cara Lodge.
