Police are investigating the death of 17‑year‑old Sudesh Ramjohn of Lima Sands, Essequibo Coast, following a fatal collision on Sunday.
According to the police, the accident occurred around 8 p.m. on the Lima Sands Access Road. It involved motor car bearing registration number PAD 3341, driven by a 44‑year‑old Cotton Field resident, and an unregistered motorcycle ridden by Ramjohn, with a 21‑year‑old pillion rider also from Lima Sands.
Investigators say the car was heading south while the motorcycle was proceeding north when the two vehicles collided. Both the rider and pillion were thrown onto the roadway, sustaining injuries. Public‑spirited citizens assisted in transporting them to the Lima Regional Hospital. Ramjohn was pronounced dead on arrival, while the pillion rider remains hospitalised.
Police confirmed that a breathalyser test conducted on the driver of the motor car returned readings of 67, 75, and 73 micrograms—well above the legal limit of 35. The driver is currently in custody assisting with investigations.
