Police in Region 7 are actively searching for several Venezuelan nationals in connection with the killing of Yosber Sojo, a fellow countryman, on Monday.

According to a statement from the Corporate Communications Unit of the Guyana Police Force, Sojo, 35, a gold miner, was accused of theft by a group of twelve men—reportedly all Venezuelan—early Monday morning. He was subsequently assaulted and later found dead.

A report was filed at the Bartica Police Station, and ranks later discovered Sojo’s body along a main access trail. A post-mortem examination has been ordered as investigations continue.

Police are pursuing leads to locate the suspects and determine the circumstances surrounding the incident.
