In what has been described as a political shake-up in the lead up to the September 1 General and Regional Elections, Opposition Parliament Amanza Walton-Desir announced her resignation from the People’s National Congress Reform.
During a press conference announcing the launching of her political party – Forward Guyana, Walton-Desir said she was sidelined from campaign activities and critical meetings, leaving her feeling undervalued within the party.
Walton-Desir an attorney by profession said her resignation takes effect immediately and that she had requested to be removed from the party’s list of candidates.
Walton-Desir said she met face to face with Party leader Aubrey Norton to clarify her standing in the party. However, she left the meeting with more questions than answers.
