A nineteen-year-old girl has been remanded to prison for the murder of her partner following a virtual hearing in the Port Kaituma Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday.
The teenager, Naderia James who was not required to plead to the indictable charge, appeared before Magistrate Rabindranauth Singh.
James, who is accused of killing twenty-year-old Kevin Smith, will return to court on October 14.
The young woman related to investigators that when she returned to the camp she shared with Smith after consuming alcohol, he was seen lying in a hammock. However, upon seeing her, he reportedly got up and armed himself with a cutlass which he used to strike her with twice. The teenager who reported the incident to the police, said she pulled a knife from the waist of her pants and stabbed Smith once to his chest.
Smith was found by investigators lying in a patch of bushes not far from the wooden and plastic camp they shared with blood on his body and wound to his chest.
