An eleven-year-old girl is dead following an accident involving a canter truck which was being driven by her father.

According to a statement issued by the police, the child Kimberly Singh of Enmore, New Housing Scheme, East Coast Demerara was riding in the back of the truck bearing registration number GAH 1139 with her mother Kamani Jairam and her younger siblings aged 8, 4 and 3.

 According to the statement, Kimberly’s father Rupnarine Singh – 40 told investigators that he was heading south along Enmore, New Housing Scheme at a fast rate when he lost control of the vehicle and ended up in a nearby trench. This resulted in all the occupants of the truck receiving injuries about their bodies. The five were rushed to the Enmore Regional Hospital, where eleven-year-old Kimberly was pronounced dead on arrival at approximately 14:09 hrs.

The canter truck is owned by one Takechand Rooplall, a resident of Clonbrook, East Coast Demerara. However, the truck was in the possession of Rieaad Narine, the driver whom Singh said gave him permission. Narine, the statement said, is claiming that he did not give permission to Singh to use the truck, adding that he told him to the owner of the vehicle.
