Four police ranks stationed at the Vreed-en-Hoop Police Station have been taken into police custody after a post-mortem examination found that Gavin Douglas died from blunt trauma to the head.

Douglas, a 32-year-old labourer of Crane, West Coast Demerara, and Recht-Door-Zee, Parfaite Harmonie, West Bank Demerara, was examined on Monday, November 2, 2026, by Government Pathologist Dr. Nehaul Singh. Dr. Singh gave the cause of death as brain haemorrhage due to blunt trauma.

The Guyana Police Force (GPF) said in a statement that two Taser studs were removed from Douglas’ body during the examination and lodged as exhibits.

After the examination, the body was handed over to relatives for burial.

The four ranks have been arrested and are being held at the Tactical Services Unit (TSU). The Office of Professional Responsibility (OPR) is investigating the circumstances surrounding Douglas’ death.

The GPF said it is treating the matter “with the utmost seriousness” and that “all necessary steps are being taken to ensure a thorough, impartial and transparent investigation.”

“The Force remains committed to accountability and the rule of law and will take appropriate action against any rank found culpable, in accordance with the law,” the statement said.

Investigations are ongoing.
