A 45-year-old father has been remanded to prison in connection with the death of his six-year-old son, Orlando Jaikarran.

Bharrat Jaikarran, also known as “Viji” or “Crank”, appeared before Magistrate Shareefah Parks at the Weldaad Magistrate’s Court on Friday, where an indictable charge was read to him.

He was not required to plead and was remanded to prison. The matter has been transferred to the Fort Wellington Magistrate’s Court, where he will next appear on November 12.

Orlando is alleged to have been killed on October 15 at the Waterloo Main Canal, Bath Settlement, West Coast Berbice. His partially decomposed body was found on Tuesday.
