The new cabinet is sworn in and several Ministers have hit the ground running. The New Local Government Minister Priya Manickchand, who weeks ago was the Minister of Education, travelled to Linden to inspect Region ten to inspect the Bamia Primary School which has been under construction for several years and had an initial completion date of July 2023.
Manickchand said the school, which is being constructed by the Ministry of Local Government and expected to take children from several communities, has been under construction for a while.
The works will commence in October according to the Minister and that a project manager will be on site to oversee the work to completion.
Construction of the school was awarded to St8tment Investment Incorporated, headed by Rawle Ferguson and Kerwin Bollars of the entertainment company Hits and Jams and Aubrey Major and Kashif Mohammed who run a local sports company.
The $346 million contract was awarded in November of 2021 but since then the company has been unable to reach several competition deadlines while additional sums were awarded. In 2024 the company was given a further $127 million in February for an April deadline.
