A husband and wife are dead in what the Guyana Police Force has confirmed to be a murder suicide. The Force’s Corporate Communications Unit in a press statement on Sunday identified the two as Alisha Narine called Tito – 36 and Ram Singh.
The mother of two was chopped to death in the compound of Vishal Singh Sawmill located at Crabwood Creek, Corentyne, Berbice.
A US based cousin of Alisha said they were talking via video chat when the suspect Ram Singh who had a cutlass in his hand, took the phone and told her, “Today, today, I will murder,” before ending the call.
34-year-old Tarmattie Joseph, said she called her daughter and reported the incident.
Alisha’s daughter, 18-year-old Felisha Narine said she received a call from a neighbour that Ram was assaulting her mother. When she arrived at the scene, she found her mother’s body lying motionless with apparent chop wounds to her left food and right hand. The teenager then made her way to Springlands Police Station where a report was filed.
Alisha’s right foot, just below the knee was almost severed according to the police and injuries were observed to her right shoulder and left hand.
Ram Singh on the other hand was found some 360 feet away under a tree, having been suspected of ingesting a poisonous substance. He was arrested and taken to No. 75 Village Regional Hospital where he was admitted but succumbed while being treated. Both bodies are at the morgue awaiting postmortem examination.
