The Ethnic Relations Commission launched a new Harmony Club at the Kuru Kururu Primary School, the latest in a series of school-based initiatives the Commission says are aimed at promoting tolerance among young people.
According to the ERC, the club was launched on Thursday in collaboration with the Ministry of Education, and involved more than 30 pupils in activities the Commission describes as focused on tolerance, mutual respect and appreciation for ethnic and cultural diversity.
Commissioner Ras Khafra also known as Deon Dick during his address to the group said through the initiative the Commission is hoping that young people learn values of love, tolerance, and respect.
The Commission says its Harmony Clubs programme has so far reached more than 300 children across participating schools.
The ERC says the initiative began with pilot schools in Georgetown and has since expanded to Mahdia, Micobie and Kamarang.
Separately, the Commission says it held a stakeholder engagement that same afternoon at the NAREI Extension Centre in Kairuni, which it says drew more than 100 residents and community leaders from Kuru Kururu, Hill Foot, Yarrowkabra, Soesdyke and nearby areas.
The session was led by ERC Chairman Shaikh Hack.
