City Magistrate Judy Latchman on Tuesday morning ruled that the extradition proceedings against businessmen Nazar and Azruddin Mohamed will continue in the lower court.
The father and son were indicted by a federal grand jury in the United States on 11 counts of conspiracy to commit mail and wire fraud. The charges stem from what American authorities describe as a gold-smuggling and money-laundering scheme.
Attorneys for the Mohameds had argued that the proceedings should not advance until the High Court rules on the constitutionality of the 2009 amendments to the Fugitive Offenders Act.
The matter has been adjourned and will be called again on January 6, 2026.
