Two biomedical experts from France visited Guyana from August 31st to September 4th, under the EU-funded HealthNext Guyana project, according to a statement from the European Union.
The project is implemented by Expertise France, in partnership with Guyana’s Ministry of Health.
The statement said the mission focused on health technology management – including how medical equipment is maintained, and what training biomedical personnel need to keep that equipment running smoothly. The visiting team toured hospitals and met with Ministry of Health officials, biomedical staff, and representatives from the University of Guyana.
A key highlight of the visit, according to the EU, was a set of working sessions held on September 3rd and 4th, which brought together biomedical maintenance personnel from Georgetown, Region Three, and Region Five to share experiences and identify opportunities for further training.
The statement said the broader HealthNext Guyana project aims to train doctors, nurses, and hospital managers; strengthen existing clinical training programs and research; support the Spanish Donation and Transplantation Institute on organ transplantation and management; and maintain biomedical equipment across the health system.
