Police Pomeroon-Supenaam (Region 2) are investigating the circumstances under which a gate fell and killed a three-year-old girl.
The child has been identified as Alaia Etwaroo. According to a statement issued by the Corporate Communication Unit of the Police Force, the fatal incident occurred at approximately 17:20 hrs on Wednesday at their Essequibo Coast home.
Reports are that the child who lived with her parents and four-year-old sister were playing in the yard with her father – 30 and sister.
The mother, the report said heard a noise and upon checking found the child lying on the ground with the metal gate on her body.
Alaia, who was bleeding from a wound on her forehead, was picked up immediately and rushed to the Charity Public Hospital where she was pronounced dead on arrival.
The gate which fell on the child measured 10ft x 6ft.
