Police are investigating a fatal accident that claimed the lives of a young motorcyclist and his infant son on Friday morning.

The crash occurred around 11:00 hrs on the Orangestein Public Road and involved motor lorry GZZ 5068, driven by a 27‑year‑old man from Covent Garden, East Bank Demerara, and motorcycle CM 5492, ridden by 22‑year‑old Krishna Persaud of Meten‑Meer‑Zorg, West Coast Demerara. Persaud and his four‑month‑old son Luke, who was riding pillion, both died in the collision. A 19‑year‑old female, also a pillion rider, survived and is hospitalized with head and other injuries. Her condition is described as stable.

Police say initial enquiries revealed that the motor lorry was turning east out of a shopping mall parking lot when the motorcycle, allegedly speeding, overtook another stationary lorry on double yellow lines and collided with the right front side of GZZ 5068. The impact threw the riders onto the roadway.

They were rushed to the De Kinderen Regional Hospital, where Persaud and his infant son were pronounced dead on arrival. The young woman later regained consciousness and was admitted to the female surgical ward.

The bodies of the deceased are at Ezekiel Funeral Home awaiting post‑mortem examinations. The driver of the lorry is in custody assisting investigators. A breathalyser test found no trace of alcohol, and police have obtained CCTV footage as part of their probe.

Investigations are ongoing.
