A 27-year-old security guard, Ormyous Vieira, is in custodial remand in connection with the murder of gold miner Ceton Courtman, 32.
Vieira, of Norton Street, Lodge, appeared at the Bartica Magistrates’ Court before Magistrate Tariq Mohamed, where the indictable charge of murder was read to him. He will return to court on August 17th for continuation.
Courtman was killed at Sands Backdam, Cuyuni River, allegedly at the hands of Vieira, who was employed by a private security company.
Courtman and Vieira were reportedly involved in an altercation when it is alleged that Vieira discharged a round, striking Courtman in the head.
Courtman was transported to the Aurora Gold Mines Medical Centre, where he was pronounced dead on arrival by the medic on duty.
A Taurus .32 pistol, along with twelve matching live rounds of ammunition, was recovered by police.
