In response to calls for there to be an independent investigation into the death of eleven-year-old Adriana Younge by investigators attached to foreign agencies such as the United States Federal Bureau of Investigation, the United Kingdom’s Scotland Yard, or Canada’s Royal Mounted Police government moved and secured the services of a retired member of the Royal Canadian Mounted Police – Leonard McCoshen.

The Ministry of Home Affairs in press statement said McCoshen is a trained and qualified homicide and suspicious death investigator who will assist in the investigation to determine the circumstances surrounding the death of Adriana Younge.

The retired policeman the statement said has thirty years of experience as an investigator with the RMCP. Twenty of those years Mr. McCoshen was attached to Serious Crimes Branch in the Major Crimes Unit, with a mandate to investigate serious, complex, and sensitive matter, mainly homicides and deaths where foul play was suspected.

There has been calls from various sections of society to have the investigation into Adriana’s death conducted by investigators from international agencies, it is not known why government is refusing to seek such assistance.

The eleven-year old’s remains was found in the pool of the Double Day Hotel, located at Tuschen, East Bank Essequibo after members of the Guyana Police told parents that she had left the hotel. Police Officers headed by the suspended Regional Commander Kahalid Mandlall was trying to convince Adriana’s parents and supporters to remove the public road in front of the hotel, to which they refused suspecting that the owner of the hotel may have information on the missing child.

The owner of the hotel, Bhojnarine Bhola who was briefly detained by Police was accused of killing twenty-year old Sadeek Juman in 2012. Bhola and his driver who were charged were both found not guilty of Juman’s death in 2016.

Reports are that Juman was beaten into a state of unconsciousness and then dumped in the hotel’s pool.

The young man was reportedly seen entering the hotel the day before he was found in the pool.
