Former President of the Guyana Teachers Union Colwyn King was found guilty of rape. King who appeared before High Court Judge Simone Morris was charged with two counts of raping a child under the age of 16.
The assaults occurred in April 2021 – one at night when no one else was present and the second occasion in the afternoon again in isolation.
Sixty-one-year-old King, a teacher by profession was found guilty by a twelve-member jury and remanded to prison. King was on bail during the trail.
Sentencing has been set for July 17.
The former teacher’s union president who is also a father was acquitted by a jury in 2016 for a similar allegation of rape in 2009.
