A twenty-two-year-old man has been taken into custody in connection with the killing of a so far unidentified man at the Vreed-en-Hoop stelling, West Coast Demerara.
According to a statement issued by the police, the incident occurred at approximately 18:00 hrs. A 56-year-old security guard attached to the Vreed-en-hoop boat house told investigators that he saw the injured man walking out of the stelling and sitting on a bench under a yellow stall in the area, bleeding from both sides of his upper body.
The security guard said with the assistance of two other persons, the injured man was placed into a car and taken to the West Demerara Regional Hospital.
The injured man according to the statement succumbed to his injuries at the hospital.
The suspect who was being treated at the Georgetown Public Hospital for injuries was questioned and taken into custody. The twenty-two-year-old West Bank Demerara man told investigators that the deceased had robbed him of his passenger fare and then attacked him with a knife resulting in him sustaining injuries. He managed to relieve the man of the knife which he in turn used to stab the now deceased man.
