The photographer responsible for capturing the image used in the new electronic passport seems to be making headway in getting recognition of her work that was used without her permission.

Amanda Richards in a facebook post today said she has established contact with the Ministry of Home Affairs on the way forward.

This confirms a comment Permanent Secretary of the Ministry Andre Ally made earlier in the day, that Ms. Richards is being engaged.

Since the launching of the passport Ms. Richards alerted the public that her image had been used without her consent.

Prior to the Ministry contacting Ms. Richards posted on her facebook page that for weeks she was trying to make contact with Permanent Secretary Ally regarding the use of her photograph in the Guyana passport without accreditation, which was a breach of her copyright.

Ms. Richards said she had emailed a letter with proof of copyright to the Minister (Robeson Benn), the Permanent Secretary and the Confidential Secretary at the Home Affairs Ministry detailing her concerns but had not even received the courtesy of a response or phone call. She said the lack of acknowledgement was disappointing but not surprising.
