U.S. Ambassador to Guyana Nicole Theriot on Monday said there has been no request from the Government of Guyana for the Federal Bureau of Investigation to assist in the ongoing investigation into eleven-year-old Adriana Younge’s death.
Speaking with reporters, Ambassador Theriot clarified that such assistance would require a direct government-to-government request.
Ambassador Theriot’s comment come as public pressure mount on government to secure help from international law enforcement agency from the FBI, Scotland Yard, and the Royal Canadian Mounted Police to investigate Adriana’s death.
Over the weekend, there were announcements of a planned protest outside the U.S. Embassy in Georgetown, urging American authorities to intervene.
Despite a heavy police presence and a cordon around the U.S. Embassy in Kingston on Monday morning, no protesters turned up. Theriot said the planned protest was part of free speech.
