The death of a 70-year-old Lusignan resident during a robbery at the home he shared with his 69-year-old wife is under investigation. The deceased has been identified only as Deonarine.

According to a statement released by the police, the man’s wife told investigators that she got out of bed at 1:30 hrs on Wednesday and went to the kitchen to commence her daily chores.

She further stated that after leaving the kitchen she left the door to the hallway open and proceeded to the bathroom when she heard a strange noise. Upon checking, she was confronted by the two suspects, one of whom choked her while the other tied her hands and feed and placed her in the bathroom.

Shortly after, her husband called for her, she heard a commotion in the hallway which eventually ceased.

The elderly woman said she managed to free herself and went to the hallway where she found her husband lying on his back. She immediately called her brother who contacted the police.

The police reported that the men escaped with $800,000 in cash – $500,000 was removed from under the bed and $300,000 from a black bag inside the bedroom.

During an examination of Deornarine’s body no marks of violence were observed, however, his hands were swabbed for DNA.

A post-mortem is to be carried out on his remains to ascertain his cause of death. Police are in search of the suspects.
