A seventeen-year-old girl allegedly under the influence of alcohol lost her life in a motorcycle accident on Sunday along the Kumu Trail in Central Rupununi.

According to a report issued by the Corporate Communications Unit of the Police Force, the teenager who has been identified as Kelly Raymondo of St. Ignatius Village, Central Rupununi while under the influence of alcohol lost control of a motorcycle she was reportedly driving at high speed – crashed into a bridge and subsequently fell into a body of water below the bridge. She sustained injuries to her head and other parts of her body.

The teenager, the press statement said, was at a wedding house in the community of Kumu where she and several friends were consuming alcohol. At approximately 22:00 hrs she reportedly drove off with the motorcycle which is owned by a 25-year-old female friend who was also a part of the group.

However, approximately one and a half hours later, a passer-by found her lying motionless in the water with the motorcycle a short distance away.

The police were notified. When ranks arrived on the scene Kelly was picked up and transported to the Lethem Regional Hospital where she was pronounced dead on arrival.

A postmortem examination will be conducted on her remains as the police continue their investigation into her death.
