The owner of the Double Day Hotel at Tushcen, East Bank Essequibo, Bhojnarine Bhola is no longer in custody as he was released after the statutory detention period elapsed, according to the Guyana Police Force in its update on the death of eleven-year-old Adriana Younge. Further, two police officers – a corporal and a constable have been dismissed from the force for neglect.
Bhola, who was freed of the 2012 killing of Sadeek Juman whose body was found in the Hotel’s Pool was arrested on the night Adriana disappeared.
According to the Police, Bhola is to report to the station until the outcome of the investigation, he is also blacklisted by the Immigration Department from leaving the jurisdiction.
Additionally, DNA samples were collected from Bhola and Adriana’s remains and sent to the Mount Sinai Health System in New York for analysis.
Meanwhile, Commander Khalid Mandlall remains on administrative leave, while a civilian employee and police ranks were also sent on administrative leave pending the outcome of the investigation.
The Guyana police force is claiming that the civilian staff who was sent on administrative mislead ranks. The civilian the statement said told ranks that on camera footage reviewed she saw someone matching the description of Adriana leaving the hotel in a car.
Adriana was among several family members who went to the hotel for an Easter outing on Wednesday, April 23 when she disappeared.
Once it was found that she had gone missing a report was made to the hotel staff who did not take the report seriously. A report was subsequently made to the Police who too dropped the ball.
Adriana’s parents and persons concerned about her safety kept watch outside the hotel the entire night. Then on Thursday morning as scores of persons were demanding answers, her body mysteriously appeared in the pool which was searched the Wednesday and early Thursday morning.
A forensic autopsy performed on Adriana’s remains indicated that she died by drowning but the pathologists could not say where she drowned.
